Flowing Ink Marbling Art originated in China during the Tang Dynasty. Colored inks were dropped onto a viscous starch-based liquid, where they naturally formed mesmerizing patterns that could then be transferred onto silk fabrics and paper. This technique was known as “Liu sha Jian” (Flowing Sand Paper), often used for imperial memorials, poetry, and elegant gifts exchanged among royal families and literati.
Through the Silk Road, this art gradually spread eastward and westward across civilizations. In the Middle East, especially in Turkey, it evolved into the renowned “Ebru Art,” widely used for decorating Quran covers and traditional folk artworks. Further west, it reached the Mediterranean regions of Europe, where it became known as “Marbling Art” and was applied to the decoration of Christian book covers and manuscripts. While In Japan, at the eastern end of Asia, it developed into the art form known as “Suminagashi” (means floating ink).

Today, after centuries of cultural refinement and reinterpretation across different civilizations, this ancient artistic technique has become appreciated and practiced worldwide.
Flowing Ink Marbling Art can create both vibrant abstract compositions and more representational patterns through artistic practice and learning. The formation process itself is dreamlike, graceful, and deeply therapeutic to watch and experience.

This art is not limited to paper and fabric. It can also be transferred onto wood, ceramics, silk scarves, glass, and many other surfaces, making it highly versatile for both decorative and practical applications while bringing artistic elegance into everyday life.
